Overview As a Substation Designer at HDR, you contribute to electrical substations within the Power Delivery group, supporting the design and engineering process. You work on CAD-driven layouts, one-line diagrams, and grounding/conduit plans to help deliver reliable, high quality substation projects. You'll collaborate with project managers and engineers while handling independent design tasks and some guidance on more complex work. This role offers growth through exposure to HV design tasks and field reviews, with an emphasis on precision and adherence to client standards. Responsibilities- Perform substation design tasks and CAD work for simple to moderately complex projects
- Create engineering drawings: One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Grounding & Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, BOMs, Relay and Control Schematics
- Conduct calculations, reports, and designs for HV substations to support engineers
- Understand client standards and complete projects with design judgment under review
- Communicate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and client personnel
Key requirements- Associate or technical school degree, or combination of education and relevant experience
- Minimum of 5 years as a CAD Technician
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and InRoads
- Experience using Microsoft Office in production workflows
- Ability to lead technicians and mentor less experienced CADD staff
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Intermediate/Advanced understanding of engineering or architectural concepts, workflows, and deliverables
