Overview In this role you drive expert-level research and strategic guidance for attorneys and staff within designated practice groups, linking groups to KM&I resources and pioneering AI-enabled workflows. You will partner with KM&I to advance knowledge management initiatives, promote adoption of firm technologies, and shape innovative solutions across IP, healthcare, real estate, and privacy and cyber. You'll lead trainings, manage knowledge portals, and support technology-driven service delivery, all while upholding confidentiality and professional standards. Responsibilities- Own designated content areas as Subject Matter Expert for IP, Health Care + Life Sciences, Real Estate, and Privacy + Cyber
- Collaborate with practice management, leadership, KM&I, and admin teams to assess research needs
- Act as liaison to pilot new technologies and workflows, evaluate products, and drive adoption
- Lead consultations with attorneys to understand resource needs and provide actionable recommendations
- Coordinate with KMAIP to develop use cases and adopt AI tools and knowledge solutions
- Design and deliver tailored training curricula for practice groups
- Manage onboarding for new attorney hires to orient them to resources
- Develop and maintain practice-specific knowledge portals and analyze usage data
- Support rollout of generative AI and emerging technologies with training and support
- Evaluate resources and lead trials for acquisition, renewal, or cancellation
- Stay current on tech enhancements and communicate updates to stakeholders
- Lead creation and curation of practice-specific work products and templates
- Engage practice group attorneys to surface reusable content and promote knowledge repositories
- Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives such as roundtables, reviews, and audits
- Provide regular reporting on KM&I activities, adoption metrics, and opportunities
- Collaborate with the KM&I Program Director on group-specific projects
- Provide backup research team support during peak periods
- Maintain strict confidentiality of firm, attorney, and client information
Key requirements- Proficiency in IP research across patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret databases and methodologies
- Deep knowledge of practice-specific content and legal bibliography
- Strong substantive understanding of law and subject matter expertise in assigned groups
- Knowledge of workflows across Practice Departments and ability to translate needs into requirements for knowledge and innovation projects
- Knowledge of generative AI solutions (general and legal research) and ability to develop use cases
- Understanding of legal tech trends (document automation, contract analytics, matter management) and willingness to adopt new tech
- Advanced communication and presentation skills; ability to organize complex content and use tech effectively
- Ability to collaborate across departments to design value-added solutions
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and in teams with strong interpersonal skills and inclusivity
- Ambassador for KM&I when engaging with attorneys and staff
- Commitment to professional development through CE, conferences, and industry involvement
- Minimum five (5) years in a law firm and five (5) years of legal research experience
- Advanced experience with Derwent Patent Search, PatentAdvisor, Corsearch, Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, VitalLaw, Lex Machina, CourtLink, Docket Alarm, Courthouse News, Manzama, and practice-specific research tools
- Experience supporting technology adoption initiatives or change management in professional services
