Overview As a Classification Specialist, you will support DoL OASAM HR operations by developing and validating position descriptions and ensuring accurate job classifications. You'll interact with incumbents and managers to capture responsibilities and prepare documentation for classification actions. You'll advise and assist federal HR teams, conduct policy analyses, and help improve HR practices, systems, and staff management across the agency. The role blends policy work with hands-on classification deliverables, contributing to compliant, equitable workforce management.

Responsibilities- Develop and validate Position Descriptions (PDs) detailing job responsibilities
- Interview incumbents/managers to ensure PD accuracy and completeness
- Provide documentation to support classification of PDs
- Ensure PD accuracy for proper title, series and grade within the agency
- Advise management on agency or position management issues to ensure equity
- Conduct studies and analyses of best practices to improve policies and practices
- Ensure classification actions comply with legal and procedural guidelines
- Assist program offices in identifying functions/positions to study
- Advise federal managers/HR staff on position management and classification issues; propose improvements
- Review, revise or approve previous classification work as requested
- Develop standard Position Descriptions for similar positions
- Perform desks audits and provide evaluation statements
- Perform other related duties as requested
Key requirements- Master's degree in business or human resources management
- Minimum three (3) years of federal sector job classification work experience
- Knowledge of federal HR practices and principles
- Knowledge of classification, staffing, and position management concepts
- Knowledge of Federal Civil Service laws, rules and regulations
- Strong research capabilities
- Experience conducting desks audits
- Experience leading and planning major HR policy projects
- Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading and editing skills
- Excellent oral and written presentation and communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
