Overview In this Senior Mechanical Engineer role, you will lead the mechanical engineering workstream on power generation projects, serving as Engineer of Record or Owner's Engineer. You'll work within HDR's multi-discipline Power Generation team to coordinate design efforts, monitor progress, and deliver technical and contractual support across utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. You'll shape the design of simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE systems while mentoring others. This role offers impact on large-scale energy projects and the opportunity to contribute to HDR's collaborative, employee-owned culture.
Responsibilities- Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines
- Monitor project status and communicate progress to stakeholders
- Provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner's engineer projects
- Develop deliverables such as construction drawings, specifications, sizing calculations, and memos
- Conduct bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates
- Design and specify power generation systems (simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, RICE)
- Collaborate with engineers and designers across disciplines on diverse project types
Key requirements- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design
- Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience
- Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation
- Experience in power consulting or EPC firms is a plus
- PE or P.Eng license
- Proficiency with MS Office and design software (see tools)
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments
- Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
