Overview As a Transmission Planning Consultant, you apply advanced engineering and analytics to assess grid performance and support transmission planning for renewables, retirements, and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with project managers, clients, and cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven solutions that improve reliability and efficiency. The role offers growth as a technical specialist within a nationwide consulting practice. You will work on impactful studies and present clear findings to clients, shaping utility-scale decisions.
Responsibilities- Perform transmission planning and operational studies (power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, voltage and reactive analysis, harmonics, EMT studies, reliability assessments, production cost modeling)
- Execute studies independently using PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP/ATP, SKM, ETAP, PROMOD
- Ensure compliance with NERC/FERC/regional requirements (TPL standards, interconnection processes)
- Apply engineering, economic, and financial analysis to assess performance, risks, and life-cycle costs
- Prepare technical reports and client-facing presentations with study results and recommendations
- Support project managers with technical execution, deliverables, and proposals
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to methodological improvements
- Collaborate across practices and support other business lines as needed
- Travel and on-site work as required

Key requirements- Proven experience in transmission planning, power system analysis, or electric utility consulting
- Strong technical aptitude and desire to become a subject matter expert
- Experience with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, or consulting
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- PE license preferred (optional)
- Experience with power system planning and operations (transient stability, short circuit, voltage analysis)
- Knowledge of NERC/FERC standards and regional requirements
- Proficient in PSSE, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, PROMOD
- Ability to lead and educate a team of consultants
- Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and time-management skills
- Willingness to travel
- Bachelor in Engineering (or Master/PhD options) as per degree path
