Overview As a Senior Electrical Engineer in Battery Energy Storage Systems, you drive the design and implementation of grid-scale storage projects from concept through construction. You collaborate with civil, structural, and electrical teams to deliver complete design packages and ensure code-compliant, reliable systems. You evaluate storage technologies, support vendor selection, and translate complex concepts into clear technical reports for diverse audiences. This role offers impact across energy transition, modernization of the grid, and mentorship of junior engineers.
Responsibilities- Develop electrical designs for BESS projects, including layouts, single-line diagrams, and construction packages
- Evaluate energy storage technologies and support client vendor selection and implementation
- Design and review detailed electrical engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates across milestones
- Define use-cases for BESS in centralized and distributed locations for clients like developers and utilities
- Coordinate with civil, structural, FLS, HV electrical, SCADA/telecom, water, and geotechnical engineers to produce construction-ready packages
- Produce technical reports communicating BESS concepts, use-cases, and feasibility results
- Participate in design reviews with stakeholders and permitting agencies
- Contribute to internal design guidelines and templates for power generation projects
- Provide QA/QC on work of engineers, designers, or technicians
- Support construction phase activities (RFIs, submittals, CPRs, change orders) and reflect changes in documents
- Engage in client, contractor, and vendor meetings to support business development and project execution
- Manage project workload to meet schedules and mentor junior team members
- Provide ongoing technical support to HDR teams and clients
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with Electrical emphasis
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 10+ years of experience in BESS, power generation, renewables, electrical distribution, or power system controls
- Strong CAD skills (AutoCAD) and experience with Revit, SKM, AGI, Easy Power
- Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards and related codes
- Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences
- Ability to manage multiple complex, time-sensitive projects and travel up to 10%
