Overview

Join a premier international law firm as an Associate in Trial & Defense. You will manage a varied general liability caseload, including NY Labor Law, premises liability, and catastrophic injury matters. You'll work closely with insurers and clients while honing trial, deposition, and writing skills in a fast-paced environment. This role offers meaningful responsibility and opportunities to shape litigation strategy and advance within a collaborative team.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a litigation caseload of 25-30 matters
  • Take and defend depositions, participate in hearings and mediations
  • Draft and argue motions, prepare pleadings and briefs
  • Prepare detailed correspondence and reporting to clients and carrier representatives
  • Conduct legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, and other research tools
  • Prepare and respond to written discovery requests
  • Review, analyze, and organize documents for production
  • Investigate claims, develop case strategy, assess liability and exposure
  • Assist in trial and mediation preparation and participate as needed
  • Collaborate with partners, clients, and cross-functional teams to advance case objectives
Key requirements
  • JD from ABA-accredited law school; active NY Bar in good standing
  • 3-6 years of substantive litigation experience
  • Experience defending premises liability, general liability, catastrophic injury, hospitality, transportation or negligent security matters
  • Background handling NY Labor Law claims strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to take and defend depositions
  • Superior legal writing, analytical, and research skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work directly with insurer clients and insureds
  • Motivated, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
