Overview

As a Sr. Occupant Safety Engineer at Kyyba, you will develop and validate CAE models for occupant protection using LS-Dyna, focusing on airbags, seat belts, and interior components. You will align CAE results with physical tests and NA safety regulations to meet stringent performance targets. You'll work closely with DREs, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to optimize designs for frontal and side impact scenarios and drive readiness through Start-of-Production. This role offers impact in improving vehicle safety and shaping interior protection strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Develop CAE occupant models in LS-Dyna for frontal and side impact
  • Collaborate with DREs and suppliers to ensure accurate CAE correlations and initial assumptions
  • Integrate restraints and interior CAE models into the system model
  • Assess system-level occupant performance across impact configurations
  • Optimize component performance (airbags, seat belts, steering column, seats, instrument panel, interior trim) to meet targets
  • Coordinate with safety structures team when BIW limits affect targets
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Interior, Chassis) when component performance hinders targets
  • Work with the Testing Team to align physical tests with CAE models and assumptions
  • Support high-quality CAE models throughout all program phases up to Start-of-Production
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Biomechanics or equivalent
  • 8-10 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency with LS-Dyna modeling and pre/post-processing tools (Primer, Ansa/Meta, Hyperworks, LS-PrePost)
  • Proficiency with Humanetics CAE dummy model pre/post-processing
  • Strong understanding of North American automotive safety protocol landscape (FMVSS-208/214, US-NCAP, IIHS)
  • Deep knowledge of interior components and safety system tuning (airbags, seat belts, seats, steering columns, instrument panels, interior trim)
  • Experience tuning parameters to achieve regulatory and consumer test targets ( 20% margin for regulatory, GOOD for IIHS, 5-Star for US-NCAP)
