Overview

In this role you will develop and refine control and safety algorithms for daVinci surgical instruments, enabling precise teleoperation and safe integration with the robot. You will collaborate with clinical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to optimize performance, analyze mechanisms, and ensure regulatory readiness. The position offers the chance to shape next generation instruments that impact patient outcomes and workflow in the operating room. Responsibilities
  • Develop and tune control and safety algorithms for new surgical instruments and accessories
  • Ensure teleoperated motion and force fidelity in collaboration with clinical development
  • Analyze instrument behavior through experiments and modeling; optimize mechanism performance and safety with mechanical design team
  • Implement feature sets and maintain existing software
  • Conduct risk analysis and document safety requirements and test protocols for FDA approvals
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to develop automated fixtures for calibration, testing, and assembly
  • Set manufacturing test specifications to verify mechanical performance
  • Maintain a broad, project-wide perspective and act as an interface between technical disciplines
  • Own cross-disciplinary issues to drive project success
Key requirements
  • PhD with 3+ years in robotics-related field or Masters with 6+ years in robotics
  • deep understanding of electro-mechanical phenomena and rigorous analysis
  • C/C++ and Matlab programming skills; hardware/software/mechanism integration experience
  • Python knowledge is a plus
  • knowledge of classical and modern servo control systems and robot kinematics
  • experience with statistical methods and CAD tools is a plus
