Overview In this role you operate and maintain the hospital's steam and heating systems, ensuring safe, reliable 24/7 coverage with a focus on engineering maintenance. You work within the Facilities Maintenance/Support Services team to monitor boilers and associated equipment, perform emergency repairs, and coordinate with outside vendors when needed. The position supports campus safety and continuous operations on an evening shift. This role offers hands-on management of complex systems in a healthcare setting and a path to contribute to a recovery-focused hospital mission.
Compensation / Benefits Responsibilities- Inspect and monitor boilers, pumps, compressors, HVAC equipment, and associated systems
- Enter and update work orders in the maintenance system for preventive and non-scheduled items
- Operate power plant as relief to ensure continuous coverage; report coverage issues to Director of Support Services
- Perform emergency maintenance after hours and coordinate with other trades or vendors
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in power plant and heat generation areas
- Notify supervisor when outside services are required; work with external vendors on inspection/maintenance contracts
- Circulate and maintain records in the power plant log
- Check water levels and pressures in the Pump House
- Oversee street lighting systems and other campus utilities
Key requirements- Current and valid First or Second-Class Steam Fireman's license (Massachusetts)
- Knowledge of industrial heating systems and pneumatic controls
- Ability to calibrate/adjust pneumatic control systems; use precision measuring equipment (manometers, voltmeters)
- Understanding of firing gas/oil boilers
- Steam boiler operation and maintenance
- Pneumatic controls calibration/adjustment
- HVAC systems operation and troubleshooting
- Electrical and instrumentation knowledge
