Overview

As a Resident Engineer in our New York Field Office, you oversee key transportation projects, guiding on-site execution and budget management. You will lead a field inspection team, coordinate with contractors, and ensure compliance with laws, policies, and standards. You'll partner with the Design Engineer to resolve issues and keep stakeholders aligned, delivering quality results on schedule. This role offers impact in infrastructure delivery within a collaborative, field-focused environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise field inspection team to ensure project execution and budget adherence.
  • Review construction schedule, chair meetings, and ensure contract compliance with contractors.
  • Provide recommendations to Design Engineer on contractor requests and facilitate stakeholder communication.
  • Ensure work complies with federal and state laws, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Work independently with defined priorities to meet project objectives.
  • Perform on-site inspections, material testing, and field measurements to support estimates.
  • Oversee audit records and regulatory compliance; review shop drawings, specs, estimates, change orders, and supplemental agreements.
  • Monitor progress vs schedules, report variances, and ensure timely completion.
  • Assist Project Manager with contract administration including budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Analyze and resolve contract disputes and design/field issues between contractors and inspectors.
  • Assess contractor compliance with plans, specs, and quality standards; resolve issues to maintain alignment.
  • Review change orders and final estimates for accuracy prior to submittal.
  • Ensure completion within budget and adherence to client requirements and company policies.
  • Develop and review engineering documents, reports, and remediation plans.
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 5 years of resident engineering experience with infrastructure construction projects
  • Experience on NYCDDC construction projects a plus
  • NYPE license a plus
  • Master's degree in Construction Management or Engineering is a plus
