Distribution Design Engineer (Hybrid)

Overview

In this role you will plan and optimize distribution circuits to meet customer needs while improving reliability and asset value. You will support field design, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and guide projects from analysis to execution, including emergency restoration. You'll balance technical decisions with safety and regulatory requirements, contributing to system performance and customer quality of service. This position offers impact through capital planning, outage analysis, and continuous improvement within a collaborative utility environment.

Responsibilities
  • Plan function for all assigned circuits and monitor performance (load growth, voltage profiles, faults, reliability)
  • Provide engineering support for customer additions requiring substantial distribution changes
  • Analyze circuit deficiencies and develop alternatives to improve reliability
  • Assist with project management and approval processes for distribution projects
  • Create Work Requests in STORMS/AIMS and coordinate with Field Engineering Design and Operations
  • Support outages resolutions, contingency planning, and regulator/setting updates (recloser, breakers)
  • Participate in emergency restoration, SORC, and OCRC review processes
  • Evaluate DG interconnection applications and annual procedures (TD941)
  • Communicate deviations to budget holders and interface with Real Estate, customers, and other departments
  • Possess EMF communications/measurements responsibilities for customers
  • May become Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide SME-level input as needed
  • Support SOC and field operations with distribution design and engineering analysis
Key requirements
  • Bachelor in Engineering
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in Energy Delivery (preferred)
  • Knowledge of distribution systems
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license
  • Ability to work in a team environment
