Overview In this Audit Director role, you will lead and oversee state and local government audits, acting as a liaison between partners, clients, and staff. You will manage multiple engagements, guide staffing and workflow, and develop staff while pursuing growth opportunities for the firm. You will serve as the government sector expert, ensure regulatory and firm policy compliance, and drive client relationships and new business development. Responsibilities- Maintain ongoing client contact and deep understanding of client operations
- Possess or report to the engagement partner on engagements, signing attestations as needed
- Oversee engagement delivery and ensure compliance with accounting frameworks and firm policies
- Identify and address issues with partners to implement solutions
- Manage engagement scheduling and staffing
- Develop and train staff; participate in staff evaluations and coaching
- Lead recruitment and interview of Assurance/Advisory candidates
- Lead business development and networking to generate new client opportunities
- Represent the firm in business development and manage initial client communications and fee estimates
- Maintain compliance with all firm-wide policies and procedures
- Serve as subject matter expert in government sector
- Monitor billing/collections in line with firm policy
- Provide guidance on not-for-profit audits as relevant
- Ensure proper direction and supervision of staff on engagement teams
Key requirements- Approximately 10 years of public accounting experience
- At least 2 years in a senior manager role
- Significant public sector auditing experience (state and local governments)
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
- CPA license (current and valid)
- Ability to travel to client and firm locations
- Proven ability to bring in new business
- Experience auditing under GAGAS/Yellow Book, GAAS, and Uniform Guidance
- Ability to direct, review, and train staff
