Overview In this role you lead the Commercial Data & Engineering function to enable analytics, digital engagement, and AI-driven insights for Alnylam's Commercial organization. You will manage a multidisciplinary team and partner with Platform Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, and Data & AI teams to translate business priorities into scalable tech solutions. You drive the Commercial data foundation and data products, ensuring governance and regulatory alignment. This role blends strategic roadmap leadership with hands-on platform delivery in a hybrid Cambridge, MA setting.
Responsibilities- Define and execute the roadmap for commercial data and engineering capabilities in partnership with business stakeholders
- Act as the primary engineering leader supporting Commercial and interface with IT vertical leadership
- Build scalable data products and solutions for Commercial Operations, Marketing, Patient Services, Market Access, and Analytics
- Own and evolve the Commercial data foundation and data spine for integration across systems and platforms
- Drive standardization of data integrations and enable reusable data products
- Scale data governance across Commercial domains with data quality, cataloging, lineage, and regulatory controls
- Collaborate with Platform Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, and Data Governance to align with enterprise standards
- Lead delivery through Agile teams, prioritization, backlog management, and cross-team coordination
- Manage and develop a multidisciplinary team of approximately 6-12 engineers
Key requirements- 10+ years of progressive experience in data, software, or platform engineering
- 5+ years leading technical teams
- 4+ years building data pipelines and platform integrations for commercial functions
- Experience with modern data stack: Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, and cloud-native orchestration (Astronomer/Airflow) or similar
- Production experience with Salesforce Health/Life Sciences Cloud and/or Veeva; Salesforce Data Cloud preferred
- Experience integrating Veeva ecosystem into a cloud data platform (e.g., Snowflake) via CDC/ingestion tooling
- Experience integrating commercial data sources (IQVIA, Symphony, claims, HCP/HCO master data, etc.)
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: Python, SQL, Snowflake, REST/GraphQL APIs, CI/CD, IaC
- Ability to partner with non-technical stakeholders across commercial and marketing functions
- Working knowledge of regulatory and privacy requirements (21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, GDPR/CCPA, MLR)
