Overview

In this role, you apply mechanical engineering to design, test, and improve aerospace electrical equipment and packaging. You lead mechanical design and testing for high-altitude electronics, ensuring it withstands stringent environmental conditions. You collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage mid-size development projects and coordinate external subcontractors. You will shape thermal, structural, and packaging solutions that enable reliable, manufacturable systems at scale. This position offers impact through advancing aerospace electro-mechanical innovations within a fast-paced mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead or support thermal, structural, dynamic, and fluid analysis for electronics equipment
  • Direct testing and data collection in lab and field environments
  • Model mechanisms and select materials
  • Perform stress, fatigue, and thermal analyses; select bonding materials
  • Create mechanical drawings and define tolerances
  • Develop assembly instructions and test procedures
  • Plan and execute tests to verify designs
  • Tackle complex issues requiring deep domain knowledge
  • Coordinate team assignments and resources; may lead others
  • Carry out other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • 8-12 years in mechanical engineering with 5+ years in production-ready rotating electrical machines or aerospace packaging
  • Proven experience drafting subsystem requirements per MIL-STD-961D or equivalent
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation (required)
  • Experience with ANSYS for structural and fatigue analysis (preferred)
  • Experience with ANSYS Icepack for thermal analysis (preferred)
  • Strong background in electro-mechanical systems, thermal management, and design for manufacturability
  • Experience with electrical machine manufacturing methods and injection-molded parts
  • Experience with composite structures and maintaining product BOMs and docs
  • Ability to perform test and measurement techniques
