Job description

Overview

As a Civil/Structural Engineer within Leidos' FAA facilities program, you will lead planning, design, and coordination for facility modernization projects. You'll develop scopes, schedules, and cost estimates, produce drawings and specifications, and manage risk and safety plans. Working with cross-functional stakeholders, you will drive site surveys, construction support, and independent project guidance to ensure on-time delivery and compliance. This role emphasizes independent problem-solving, multi-disciplinary coordination, and a focus on infrastructure upgrades for critical facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site surveys to create to-scale designs and reports
  • Prepare AutoCAD/construction drawings and site-specific specifications
  • Coordinate design components with multidisciplinary teams for modifications and new construction
  • Lead project management tasks including safety plans, work sequences, and cutover plans
  • Develop and maintain Integrated Risk Management Checklists and ORM-related plans
  • Coordinate and obtain Work Permits related to lead/asbestos during construction
  • Participate in pre-construction and on-site meetings with stakeholders
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate construction activities to meet milestones
  • Review FAA-designed engineering project designs and monitor progress
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and maintain electronic project folders
Key requirements
  • Civil or Structural Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program
  • At least 3 years of foundation design and industrial structural systems experience
  • Current knowledge of building structural codes for design calculations and assessments
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD / MicroStation; MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to obtain FAA Public Trust clearance and pass drug test
  • US citizen or Green Card holder with three years US residency for Public Trust eligibility
  • Ability to travel up to 30% and work five days a week in Des Plaines, IL
  • Experience with environmental equipment, mechanical systems, roofing, and facility refurbishment
