Overview

As a Commercial Credit Senior Associate, you assess and manage credit risk for commercial clients, partnering with relationship managers to drive sound lending decisions. You own underwriting from screen to approval and through the life of the loan, with ongoing monitoring and risk rating. You'll analyze financial statements, prepare credit analyses, and structure transactions that align with policy and regulatory standards. This role sits at the crossroads of credit risk and client coverage, offering meaningful impact on portfolio health and lending quality.

Responsibilities
  • Underwrite new requests and material modifications from deal screen through approval and for the life of the loan
  • Monitor ongoing credit risk through CCM activities including annual reviews, covenant monitoring, and problem loan management
  • Review and synthesize financial information (statements, tax returns, due diligence, appraisals) to determine risk and data needs
  • Prepare independent credit quality assessments with risk ratings, identify risks and mitigants, and describe industry and market trends
  • Recommend loan structure and terms based on scenario analysis (base vs downside cases)
  • Maintain timely and accurate risk ratings across a portfolio of commercial credits
  • Spread financial statements and build financial models to analyze various credit conditions
  • Attend client/prospect calls to understand business and inform underwriting
  • Present credit analyses and recommendations; assist in loan structure and control provisions
  • Ensure compliance with Commercial Credit Policy and regulatory standards; escalate risk issues
  • Maintain internal controls and respond to audit findings and regulator inquiries
  • Collaborate with relationship managers to manage deals from screen to life of loan
  • Lead transaction execution in partnership with analysts when appropriate
  • Provide training input for junior Analysts
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field; or 5 years' equivalent experience in commercial credit or financial analysis
  • 5 years' experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement analysis, or related field; or 9 years combined education and experience in lieu of degree
  • Strong analytical skills with financial modeling and credit metrics
  • Ability to calculate and interpret financial ratios and perform trend analysis
  • Emerging proficiency in understanding legal documentation and structuring transactions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; strong organizational and time management skills
  • Customer-focused with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; preferred experience with Capital IQ, FactSet, Bloomberg
