Overview

In this Senior Geotechnical Engineer role you will lead geotechnical work for dams and hydropower projects from our Glenwood Springs office, collaborating with the Denver dams group. You will oversee field investigations, material testing, analyses, and reporting to support design and permitting. The position involves presenting findings to project teams, regulators, and review boards, with a focus on dam safety and performance. You will apply QA/QC and safety standards to deliver robust solutions that advance infrastructure resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and perform subsurface investigations and data collection (drilling, CPT, geophysics) for dams across the western US
  • Plan and manage complex field exploration programs and material characterization including lab testing
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses (seepage, slope stability, settlement, liquefaction, deformation) and prepare recommendations
  • Prepare and present technical reports and design-related documents to clients, regulators, and technical review boards
  • Review regulatory guidelines and ensure compliance for dam design and permitting work
  • Participate in dam safety inspections and prepare summary reports with recommendations
  • Oversee construction inspections and verify conformance to plans and specs
  • Mentor junior staff, perform peer review of calculations and documents, and uphold QA/QC standards
  • Develop and manage health and safety plans for field investigations and dam safety work
  • Willingness to travel for extended fieldwork as needed
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil / Geotechnical Engineering or related field
  • 6+ years of related dam experience or equivalent
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Willingness to travel for fieldwork as needed
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Leadership and delegation abilities
  • Collaboration across cross-functional teams
  • Geotechnical analyses: seepage, slope stability, settlement, liquefaction, deformation
  • Field investigations and data collection (drilling, CPT, geophysics)
  • Material characterization and laboratory testing
