Staff Pipeline Engineer (Chicago)

Job description

Overview

In this role you will lead pipeline design from concept through design completion for transmission and distribution projects. You'll work with project teams to adapt plans to budgets and client needs, update CAD drawings, and prepare specifications and client materials. You'll apply core pipeline engineering principles, assess feasibility when data is limited, and contribute to studies and reports. This position offers hands-on design, field measurements, and collaboration across disciplines to deliver world-class pipeline projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design pipeline systems from conceptual phase to design completion
  • Modify and review production drawings across pipeline projects (transmission & distribution)
  • Design components to meet project needs set by project managers
  • Apply standard pipeline engineering concepts, codes, and procedures
  • Research and compile project data, studies, and write specifications
  • Assess feasibility of proposed applications when data is insufficient
  • Update CAD drawings using multiple CAD software
  • Prepare information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients
  • Perform other duties as assigned and ensure compliance with policies
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited) with 3 years of pipeline engineering experience; consulting preferred
  • Or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology with FE exam completed and 3 years of pipeline experience; consulting preferred
  • Or Master's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with 2 years of pipeline experience; consulting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of standard pipeline engineering techniques and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Analytical, methodical problem-solving mindset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CAD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, ATF)
  • EIT Certification preferred
