Overview

In this PCB Manufacturing Engineer role, you will own the manufacturing readiness of rocket-related PCBs, PCBA assemblies, and related components for Starship. You will work across design, R&D, and supply chain to ramp new parts, stabilize production, and mitigate supplier risks. You'll drive process improvements, root-cause investigations, and cross-functional collaboration to reduce defects and cycle times. This is a mission-driven position focused on enabling high-volume, high-quality electronics fabrication for spaceflight hardware. You will play a key part in SpaceX's goal of advancing human life on Mars, delivering technical excellence and scalable manufacturing.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical contact for assigned rocket parts and assemblies, addressing high-impact manufacturing and quality challenges at suppliers
  • Own NPI of new parts/assemblies, including supplier reviews and ramp-to-rate processes
  • Collaborate with design, R&D, procurement, hardware reliability, and production teams to manage the product portfolio
  • Analyze production data to drive improvements in manufacturability, lead times, and cost
  • Investigate and resolve issues via root-cause analysis, implement supplier or internal changes, and re-source as needed
  • Lead containment activities and coordinate cross-functional resolution
  • Drive supplier root cause failure analysis and corrective actions for quality gaps, escapes, or containments
  • Support procurement in strategically sourcing parts by evaluating supplier capabilities
  • Demonstrate innovation and technical excellence in challenging environments
  • Become the primary supply-chain contact for defects on assigned parts
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 1+ years in manufacturing or process engineering
  • Experience with electronics manufacturing including PCBs, laminates, PCBA, and/or EEE components
  • Knowledge of PCBA processing (pick-and-place, reflow, soldering, AOI, x-ray)
  • Understanding of PCB stack-up materials
  • Knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-2221, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610)
  • Experience drafting and presenting DFM improvements
  • Ability to assess supplier technical capability and conduct onboarding/audits
  • Familiarity with Quality systems (PPAP, APQP, FAI, ISO 9000/TS/AS9100)
  • Experience with 3D modeling/CAD and engineering drawing creation
  • Knowledge of Pareto analysis, root cause, corrective action, and PFMEAs
  • Understanding of lean concepts and statistical methods (Minitab, DOE, Six Sigma)
  • Strong communication skills and cross-functional influence
  • Willingness for extended hours and travel (up to 25-50%), valid driver's license
