Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead engineering efforts on assigned projects, ensuring technical accuracy and timely delivery. You will guide other leads and mentors, shaping solutions for complex problems and maintaining Fluor's competitive edge through quality, value, and technical excellence. You collaborate across disciplines to set schedules, specifications, and procurement steps while driving project success in a global context. This position offers the chance to impact large-scale power projects and develop leadership and technical expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and review estimates and schedules, and produce progress reports and workforce forecasts
  • Track material quantities and provide analysis and forecasts
  • Develop and review specifications and design criteria
  • Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting
  • Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and address complex engineering problems
  • Serve as Supervising Lead, mentor less experienced engineers, and contribute to performance appraisals
  • Analyze problems and propose solutions aligned with project objectives and guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Accredited four-year engineering degree or global equivalent
  • Sixteen years of work-related experience
  • Professional certification or registration in applicable field (if required)
  • Effective communication with diverse audiences
  • Job-related technical knowledge required to complete the job
  • Ability to learn and apply local, state/provincial, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
  • Attention to detail and time-conscious work
  • Professional registration and membership in technical society (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of codes, standards, materials availability and cost
  • Estimating and staff forecasting experience
  • Managing and leading a large project
  • Project setup, control-level scheduling, progress reporting, and close-out
  • Practical field experience
  • Intermediate computer skills (word processing, email, spreadsheets, presentations)
