Overview

In this Design Engineer role, you will help modernize and transition a global CAN/LAN network for a government customer. You will work within the National Security Team to design, document, and validate secure network solutions aligned with DISA STIGs and enterprise policies. You'll use a private test lab to prototype changes, schedule maintenance with minimal data impact, and support operations with fault isolation and scalable fixes. This position offers hands-on design and build experience in a mission-critical environment with a path toward MPLS WAN exposure. Responsibilities
  • Interpret customer requirements and apply standard design approaches for service delivery
  • Fully document designs with diagrams, BOMs, cabling sheets, and configurations
  • Use private test lab to evaluate new technologies and test changes
  • Schedule maintenance windows to migrate from legacy to modern infrastructure with minimal data impact
  • Provide technical expertise to Operations for fault isolation and resolution
  • Develop secure network designs aligned with STIGs and obtain Authority to Operate (ATO) for new devices/software
  • Supervise network support specialists to plan, coordinate, and implement services
  • Improve design products, processes, and systems
  • Opportunity to learn and work on MPLS WANs alongside CAN/LAN focus
Key requirements
  • TS/SCI with polygraph
  • 10 years of experience equivalent (doctorate+3, masters+4, bachelor+6, associates+8, HS)
  • DoD 8140 IAT Level 2
  • Network engineering experience including Tier III or higher operations/design
  • Production network hardware configurations for Cisco, Brocade, and/or Juniper
  • Hands-on routing protocols such as OSPF or BGP in production networks
  • Hands-on switching/trunking protocols including VLANs, 802.1Q, and port-channels
