Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical design and packaging for Spellman products, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver durable, efficient high-voltage solutions. You will apply thermo-mechanical expertise and DFx practices to improve manufacturability and reliability, while supporting manufacturing, sales, and customers to drive new business opportunities. You will mentor engineers and contribute to product upgrades, balancing performance with production realities. This is a hands-on, cross-disciplinary position at a company renowned for powering advanced technology.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design and packaging of Spellman products
  • Participate in design reviews with internal and external stakeholders for fit, function, and compliance
  • Create/validate designs using CAD/analysis tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Ansys)
  • Perform mechanical and thermal stress calculations
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality to optimize design for manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability (DFX)
  • Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation, including drawings, BOMs, and specifications
  • Support continuous improvement and upgrades to existing product lines
  • Mentor and support Mechanical Engineers during new product development projects
Key requirements
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering; MS preferred
  • 7-10 years of experience in power electronics packaging and electromechanical systems
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Ansys or similar CAD/FEA tools
  • Strong knowledge of electromechanical components and mechanical housing fabrication (sheet metal, weldments, fasteners); casting and plastic molding experience a plus
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and BOM management
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills
  • Ability to distill complex technical topics into actionable insights
