Overview In this role you will deliver traffic engineering analyses and designs for diverse transportation projects. You work with planners, engineers, and technicians to advance planning, design, and construction efforts, focusing on safety, efficiency, and compliance. You will analyze traffic conditions, develop control plans, and prepare technical materials for clients and public meetings. You will use industry software and collaborate with agencies like TDOT to ensure project success, contributing to broader transportation goals. This is a hands-on, impact-driven opportunity to shape traffic operations and corridor performance in a multidisciplinary context.
Responsibilities- Conduct traffic impact studies, operational analyses, and corridor studies to support planning and design
- Design traffic control devices including signals, signs, pavement markings, and temporary plans
- Analyze traffic flow using specialist software (Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, TransModeler, AutoTurn)
- Prepare reports, memoranda, and client/stakeholder presentations
- Perform field assessments to collect data and validate recommendations
- Collaborate with internal teams and public agencies (e.g., TDOT) to ensure project success
- Utilize OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and AutoCAD for design and drafting
- Ensure compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, NACTO, and TDOT guidelines
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables with clear communication
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee
- Minimum five years of traffic engineering experience
- Experience with TDOT and Tennessee agencies is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools
- PTOE certification is a plus
