Senior Controls Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead and shape automation solutions for manufacturing, mentoring engineers and coordinating with cross-functional teams. You will design and deploy control systems, from concept to deployment, balancing specifications, cost, and schedule. You will develop organized PLC code and integrate with MES, robotics, and vision systems to enable smart, reliable production. Responsibilities
  • Mentor engineers and technicians
  • Lead early equipment concept development and balance specs, process control, layout, cost, quality, and lead-time
  • Design industrial electrical panels to NFPA79/NEC/UL508A and create electrical schematics
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC ladder logic with structured, maintainable, reusable code
  • Manage electrical cabinet builds
  • Connect machines with plant-wide MES
  • Introduce automated machines into production and train maintenance and production teams
  • Create and review specs for outsourced automated equipment purchases
  • Provide technical lead on assigned projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • 12+ years of experience designing and implementing automation solutions in manufacturing
  • Strong PLC expertise (Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi)
  • HMI/GUI layout, Field Bus Networks, Safety Systems, Vision Systems, Robotics integration
  • Familiarity with electrical prints and industrial equipment standards
  • Excellent technical presentation and training skills
  • Advanced PLC programming proficiency with maintainable code structure
  • Ability to program state machines for complex processes (multi-station, pick and place, data acquisition, PID)
  • Proven ability to design reliable systems with error handling and recovery processes
