Tax Manager/Tax Senior Manager, Real Estate

Overview

In this role you drive sophisticated real estate tax advisory for high-profile clients as part of KPMG's Business Tax Services. You will lead client relationships, manage engagement teams, and deliver high-quality tax guidance on REITs and real estate funds. The position blends client service, technical tax leadership, and business development within a collaborative, growth-focused culture. You'll operate in a dynamic network like the Ignition Centers to shape innovative tax solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of clients and serve as primary point of contact; foster client relationships and demonstrate deep knowledge of real estate investment funds and REITs
  • Direct tax professionals and assistants on client projects
  • Advise clients and ensure high-quality tax services and advice
  • Assess tax impacts, develop supporting arguments, and propose client plans
  • Participate in external market and business activities to promote KPMG and its services
  • For Senior Manager: oversee risk and financial performance of engagements, including budgeting, billing, and collections; partner with colleagues to identify growth opportunities for the tax practice
Key requirements
  • Minimum five years of recent experience as a tax manager in a public accounting firm
  • Partnership tax experience in financial services with real estate and real estate private equity funds
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Licensed CPA, EA or JD/LLM (or ability to obtain one of the listed credentials within 1 year)
  • Extensive real estate tax technical and transaction skills (partnership taxation, REITs, allocations, compliance, due diligence, structuring)
  • Experience managing engagements, teams, and budgets
  • Knowledge of business development within the market
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to manage multiple client engagements and teams
  • Senior Manager: minimum eight years of experience as a tax manager with public accounting; partnership tax experience in real estate/real estate private equity funds
