Overview In this role you support K&L Gates lawyers and professionals with expert legal, business, and public records research. You will work across time zones, prioritizing billable work while delivering clear, actionable results. You'll lead research strategy on complex queries, train colleagues, and drive knowledge management across the firm. Responsibilities- Provide expert-level research and consultative services to lawyers and professionals across time zones via a centralized ticketing system
- Conduct legal, business, and public records research using government and subscription resources (Lexis, Westlaw, VitalLaw, Bloomberg Law, S&P Capital IQ, D&B Hoovers, Orbis, CasePortal, TLOxp, Experian)
- Evaluate sources for currency, reliability, relevance, and cost-effectiveness; select optimal resources
- Present clear, organized results and integrate findings into final work products
- Prioritize billable workflow and communicate deadlines effectively
- Engage with new technologies (e.g., Generative AI) when appropriate
- Scope and respond to complex research requests across legal, corporate, and client contexts
- Lead research strategy for expert-level queries and project management
- Provide and implement current awareness and litigation alerting
- Develop understanding of users' information needs to improve access to information
- Collaborate with practice and industry groups to enhance service delivery
- Deliver presentations, training materials, and instructional programs on research methods and tools
- Mentor junior team members in research and reference support
- Maintain knowledge management and time entry for billable work
- Participate in trials, demos, and testing of new tools; advise on tool purchases
- Recommend and present resource acquisitions/renewals to optimize the research portfolio
- Ensure compliance with information security, privacy, confidentiality, and licensing
- Meet with Directors and PALs to review resources and potential new products
- Consult on RFPs requiring practice-area research expertise
- Engage in professional development and share lessons with colleagues
- Handle additional research and technical tasks as needed
Key requirements- Minimum of 5 years of complex research experience in a law firm, government, court, academic, or corporate setting
- Intellectual Property research experience preferred
- Master's Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution (or JD with relevant library experience)
- Strong understanding of legal systems and industry trends
- Expert-level ability to conduct, analyze, and synthesize research; solve complex questions
- Ability to manage multiple projects and billable workflows in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and collaboration skills
- Commitment to professional development, ethical standards, and knowledge sharing
