Overview In this role you will design and deploy AI/ML systems that detect and mitigate cybersecurity threats across AWS infrastructure, leveraging GenAI and large-scale data. You will collaborate with engineers and scientists to push automation in threat detection, contributing to the Amazon Active Defense effort. You'll lead research initiatives, mentor teammates, and translate complex problems into scalable, real-time security solutions. Responsibilities- Design, build, and deploy AI/ML systems processing threat data at petabyte scale with real-time inference
- Analyze data, prototype detection methods for unknown security problems
- Frame ambiguous problems, define and deliver a research agenda with limited guidance
- Advocate for new technologies to solve complex security challenges
- Build consensus on scientific approaches balancing rigor with operational urgency
- Mentor and develop teammates technically and professionally
- Publish patents and peer-reviewed work and present research internally and externally
Key requirements- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience leading engineering teams as a mentor or tech lead
- 3+ years of non-internship experience building ML models for business applications
- Experience deploying AI/ML models into production systems with verified customer impact
- Non-internship experience with programming/scripting (e.g., Python)
