Overview

In this role, you will oversee the legal and business aspects of real estate transactions and asset management to advance UW's strategic objectives. You will lead contract documentation and legal services for UW Real Estate, collaborating with external counsel and campus partners to secure optimal terms. You will manage complex transactions and risk, with a focus on large-scale real estate portfolios. This position offers a leadership path within FPB and the opportunity to shape property stewardship and compliance across UW campuses.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee contracts and documentation for UW Real Estate to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with policies
  • Negotiate terms with external parties and analyze financial implications of real estate deals
  • Provide guidance to support decision-making and advance asset management strategic goals
  • Manage legal operations to ensure transactions meet financial objectives and strategic impact
  • Support a portfolio of real estate transactions and assets, including high-value matters
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional initiatives related to real estate governance and risk management
  • Develop training materials on legal and risk-management best practices for UWRE staff and interns
  • Represent the University in professional organizations and at industry events
  • Mentor interns and team members; promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within UW Facilities
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and project leadership in real estate initiatives
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor in Law and minimum 5 years' experience in commercial real estate, transactions, and contracts (including ground leases)
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with strong analytical problem-solving
  • Proven ability to lead multiple complex projects in a cross-functional environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce clear, accurate legal documentation
  • Experience interpreting and applying real estate market data to transactions
  • Preferred: experience with non-profit or governmental higher education settings and sound business judgment
