Overview

As a technical leader in Lilly's Process Translation and Execution team, you will shape a high-performing group delivering purification and conjugation science across modalities. You'll drive tech transfer, scale-up, and right-first-time clinical manufacturing while building collaborative relationships across development, engineering, quality, and operations. This role sits at the heart of the Lilly Medicine Foundry's startup phase, offering impact on pipeline delivery and site culture. You'll lead with innovation and develop talent to meet ambitious manufacturing goals.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a team of PTE scientists with expertise in downstream bioprocessing (chromatography, TFF/UFDF, viral inactivation, viral filtration) across modalities
  • Provide technical oversight for clinical DS purification and conjugation tech transfers to cGMP operations
  • Support facility fit analyses, risk assessments, and scale-up strategies ensuring right-first-time execution
  • Serve as primary SME on the manufacturing floor, drive deviation investigations, root cause analysis, and CAPA closure
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to streamline tech transfer processes and digitize technical documentation and workflows
  • Define and lead purification/conjugation technology strategy; align with portfolio needs and future capabilities
  • Act as technical liaison across multiple functions and represent PTE in regulatory inspections
  • Build external partnerships to advance site technology and innovation
Key requirements
  • PhD in a relevant science or engineering field
  • 12+ years of industry experience in biologics DS development/manufacturing; 8+ years in purification
  • Deep downstream unit ops expertise: chromatography, TFF/UFDF, viral inactivation, viral filtration
  • Experience with column packing, resin lifetime management, scale-up from bench to clinic
