Overview In this Senior Mechanical Engineer role, you will drive hardware development for ground and flight systems that support NASA missions, focusing on high-quality, reliable hardware for astronaut health and experiments. You will act as a technical lead, applying core mechanical engineering principles to complex spaceflight challenges and collaborating with cross-functional teams in the Design Engineering and Fabrication Section. You will mentor engineers, oversee design reviews, and contribute to program success under limited supervision. Responsibilities- Generate and define requirements for hardware concepts and tests
- Lead hardware design, test, and qualification activities
- Provide design review oversight and guidance to engineers
- Mentor younger design engineers and support team development
- Plan and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work on major projects
- Support ISO/AS9100/CMMI activities and audits
- Communicate with contract management, peers, and customers
- Identify and mitigate risks, track project tasking, and manage budgets/schedules
Key requirements- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years related experience, 12+ years in flight hardware development preferred
- Previous NASA, NASA contractor, or DoD experience
- Proven success in complex projects in dynamic environments
- Experience developing hardware/products for highly integrated systems
