Overview In this role you drive policy influence for Progress Residential in state and local governments, shaping government relations across the SFR sector. You will lead advocacy efforts, build durable relationships with policymakers, and translate complex policy issues into clear positions. You'll work closely with the VP of Government Affairs and cross-functional teams to align strategy with company priorities. This position offers meaningful impact at scale, contributing to fair competition, economic growth, and operational stability in a growing housing market. You'll engage with industry leaders and regulators to influence policies that affect residents, owners, and operators.

Responsibilities- Monitor and analyze state and local legislative and regulatory proposals affecting Progress and the SFR industry
- Assess policy impacts and elevate risks early
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies in coordination with the VP of Government Affairs
- Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure effective advocacy
- Establish and maintain relationships with legislators, policymakers, regulators, and government staff
- Educate and persuade decision-makers about the SFR industry's role and contributions
- Support efforts to influence the development and implementation of laws and regulations
- Advocate for policies that promote fair competition, economic growth, and operational stability
- Cultivate relationships with industry leaders and advocacy organizations
- Coordinate with other lobbyists and stakeholders to form coalitions
- Represent Progress in industry meetings, conferences, and public forums
- Prepare senior leadership for meetings with government officials and regulatory agencies
- Serve as a reliable surrogate for the VP of Government Affairs when appropriate
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (post-graduate)
- 7-10 years in government relations or related roles; Capitol Hill or state legislative experience preferred
- Working knowledge of SFR industry, housing policy, or regulated real estate sectors
- Strong understanding of legislative processes and political dynamics at state/local levels
- Proven ability to analyze policy issues and translate into advocacy strategies
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships with policymakers and stakeholders
