Associate Director, Applied AI Engineering - PxE Consulting

Overview

In this role you set the vision and technical direction for enterprise AI-enabled products, shaping architecture and code while aligning AI strategies with business goals. You lead cross-functional teams across product groups, drive standards and reference architectures, and deliver measurable value through scalable Applied AI and GenAI capabilities. You stay hands-on to influence design and engineering velocity, while mentoring engineers and engaging executives. This is a mission-driven opportunity to advance Deloitte's AI investments and product portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Define and communicate a cross-enterprise Applied AI engineering vision aligned with business and technology strategy
  • Advocate for and roadmap integrated AI architecture, ensuring KPI, maturity, compliance, and cost awareness
  • Establish reference architectures, standards, and best practices across AI/ML/GenAI; oversee SSDLC from discovery to production with automation
  • Mentor engineers and leaders in modern AI engineering practices (cloud-native, microservices, data engineering, IaC)
  • Lead iterative value-driven delivery with lean processes, balancing speed and quality
  • Maintain customer-centric focus to minimize complexity and ensure value delivery
  • Drive risk management, security, reliability, and performance benchmarks
  • Communicate trade-offs clearly to stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Engage across teams and executives to co-create momentum and value
Key requirements
  • 10+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with modern tech stack
  • 7+ years architecting and delivering enterprise solutions on cloud-native architectures
  • 5+ years leading engineering standards and guiding team adoption
  • 2+ years with AI/ML and agentic applications, GenAI with LLM integration and RAG pipelines
  • Experience with AI frameworks and agent orchestration tools; knowledge of BCD/diagramming and AI-augmented development
  • Proven experience with XP/Lean/DevSecOps/SRE/CI/CD tools (ADO, GitHub, SonarQube, MLflow, LangFuse/LangSmith)
  • Experience with cloud providers (Azure, AWS, GCP) and FinOps-aware engineering
  • Ability to work onsite min 3 days/week in select locations; US work authorization; travel 0-10%
