Overview In this role you enable secure, reliable IT services for high-security research environments by administering Windows/Linux systems, virtualization, and networked platforms. You'll work across Warminster and University Park to keep systems compliant, patched, and perform root-cause analyses on issues. You drive automation and runbooks to reduce MTTR while supporting audits and DoD/NIST controls. This position offers meaningful work supporting ARL's mission to empower Navy, DoD, and IC research through secure IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities- Provide end-user support across secure networks and manage Jira tickets and asset records
- Perform on-site hardware tasks at Warminster including provisioning endpoints/servers, cabling, and peripheral management
- Administer Windows/Linux systems across physical and virtual environments (AD accounts, patching, baseline)
- Operate virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper V): create VMs, templates, snapshots, monitor resources
- Apply DISA STIGs, remediate findings, track POA&Ms, and support DoD/NIST audits
- Manage basic network functions (ports, VLANs, port security) and respond to health alerts
- Implement Continuous Monitoring with Splunk: deploy forwarders, ensure log ingestion, develop searches and dashboards
- Develop and maintain Warminster SOPs aligned to University Park covering admin, access, backup/restore, patching, incident response
- Drive continuous improvement by standardizing runbooks and automating routine tasks to reduce MTTR across services
- Demonstrate ability to adopt new technologies and serve as primary implementer/maintainer
Key requirements- Top Secret eligibility and potential government background check for clearance upgrades
- Security+, CASP+, or CySA+ certification (familiarity or ability to obtain)
- Proven ability to adopt new technologies and act as primary implementer/maintainer
- Windows/Linux administration including AD/Group Policy, provisioning, patching, baseline management
- VMware administration (vRealize, vSphere, NSX, SRM)
- Networking fundamentals (L2 switching, VLANs, port security) and on-site troubleshooting
- Experience with security/compliance: DISA STIGs, POA&Ms, DoD/NIST controls
- Monitoring/observability with Splunk: forwarders, searches, dashboards
- Scripting/automation: PowerShell and Bash for runbook automation
- Service management: Jira Service Management/Assets, ITIL incident/problem practices
- Documentation: develop/run SOPs aligned to University Park
