Senior Water Resources Engineer - Mining

Overview

In this role you will lead mine water management projects as part of Stantec's Water Resources team. You'll apply hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality modeling to support environmental assessments, site water balance, and closure planning. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary experts and engage clients to deliver defensible recommendations. The position offers opportunities to influence water resources design and regulatory compliance at scale across Canada. Responsibilities
  • Lead mine water resources management projects through all life-of-mine phases, including baselines, design and planning, and NI 43-101 support
  • Develop surface water and site-wide water balance/models
  • Oversee mine closure planning studies and design of water management infrastructure
  • Provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams and integrate findings into recommendations
  • Manage project budgets, staffing, proposals, schedules, and client communications
  • Author clear technical reports and supervise field investigations
  • Collaborate across teams to apply industry standards and regulatory guidance
  • Travel to field sites and work with data-rich analysis
Key requirements
  • Strong hydrology and hydraulics expertise
  • Experience with numerical modeling tools (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, CORMIX)
  • Experience with water balance and water quality models (e.g., GoldSim)
  • Provincial/federal water resources regulations knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills with clients and regulators
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and mentor staff
  • Professional registration with PEO or equivalent
  • 10+ years in mining water resources consulting or regulatory environments
  • Bachelor or higher in a related field
  • Driver's license (G-class)
