Overview

In this Director of Human Resources role, you will lead the People and Culture function in San Diego, shaping HR strategy to support rapid growth and organizational effectiveness. You will collaborate with management to align HR plans with business goals, drive talent development, and ensure compliant, high-impact people programs. The role combines policy design, employee relations, and lifecycle management to foster a productive, diverse workplace. You will operate in a hybrid environment and play a pivotal role in sustaining Daybreak's culture and performance.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic HR plans and policies (recruitment, training, compensation)
  • Plan organizational growth structure and workforce strategy
  • Lead performance and change management initiatives
  • Drive equal opportunity and diversity efforts
  • Manage labor and employee relations and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Analyze HR operations for efficiency and effectiveness; redesign processes
  • Oversee HR records and end-to-end employee lifecycle (onboarding to offboarding)
  • Oversee negotiations with HR consultancy agencies and benefits providers
  • Coordinate HR department activities, goals, systems, and budget
  • Provide coaching, guidance and policy interpretation to management
  • Serve as point of contact for disciplinary and grievance matters
Key requirements
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience with at least 5+ years in HR management at companies with 100+ employees
  • Deep knowledge of HR functions (talent management, recruitment, etc.)
  • Experience with HRIS and ATS systems; HR intranet administration
  • Knowledge of employment law, labor relations, counselling and coaching
  • Strong strategic planning, project management and change management skills
  • Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving abilities
  • Bachelor degree in Business/HR-related field; MSc/MA/MBA is a plus
  • PHR/SPHR certification is a plus
