Overview

In this role you will develop and implement models for risk and pricing of commodity products and derivatives, with a focus on US FTR, Gas and Power. You will collaborate with risk and investment teams to enhance risk analytics, reporting, and stress testing across portfolios. You will work with technology teams to automate research and integrate solutions into the existing infrastructure, supporting portfolio onboarding and cross-portfolio risk insights. This role offers the chance to shape risk analytics for a commodities business and contribute to strategic risk management at BAM. Responsibilities
  • Formulate and implement risk models for commodity products and derivatives (term structures, volatility surfaces)
  • Improve risk reporting tools, including P&L attribution and portfolio construction
  • Develop stress testing methodologies and analyze results with statistical metrics
  • Configure and calibrate risk systems with Risk Management
  • Apply quantitative methods to estimate market liquidity and liquidation costs
  • Contribute to global risk understanding and ad-hoc risk analyses across portfolios
  • Collaborate with technology to automate research and reporting integration
  • Onboard new portfolios and products with risk considerations
Key requirements
  • 10+ years as a commodities quant, strategist, or quantitative risk officer
  • Expertise in US FTR, Gas and Power; strong experience in supporting FTR trading
  • Masters/Doctorate in quantitative fields (math, physics, engineering, statistics, economics, finance)
  • Experience valuing and modeling physical commodity assets and structured transactions
  • Experience across multiple commodities: electricity, natural gas, crude oil, oil products, energy assets, etc.
  • Experience with seasonality in commodities risk models
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL; familiarity with pandas, numpy
  • Strong problem-solving and collaborative communication skills
