Responsibilities- Design, develop, and operate a suite of AI governance agents for security, risk classification, compliance, legal, and auditing across the full SDLC
- Integrate governance agents with existing enterprise systems and control frameworks for continuous, auditable oversight
- Lead a governance enablement team to handle complex scenarios and provide practical alternatives when automation cannot proceed as proposed
- Set service levels, escalation paths, and decision rights to keep governance responsive to delivery pace
- Build governance literacy through guidance, patterns, and reusable controls
- Represent New York Life AI in internal and external governance, risk, compliance, legal, and technology forums
- Evolve governance frameworks, policies, guardrails, and controls in response to changing technology and regulatory landscapes
- Oversee enterprise-wide governance across three tiers of AI usage, with particular focus on Tier 3 vendor-enabled AI
Key requirements- 12+ years in technology risk, model risk, AI/ML governance, or related fields with substantial leadership
- Proven experience building or modernizing governance functions rather than operating an existing one
- Hands-on fluency with foundation models, agentic systems, MLOps, evaluation/monitoring tooling, and AI security concerns
- Strong knowledge of AI regulatory standards (NIST AI RMF, NAIC, NYDFS, SR 11-7) and evolving AI regulation
- Ability to influence Legal, Compliance, Risk, Audit, InfoSec, and Procurement at a senior level
- Experience governing third-party/Vendor AI capabilities
- Executive communication skills for board and regulatory audiences
- Preferred: Insurance/financial services in regulated environments; prior external governance engagement; technical oversight of governance automation; advanced degree in related fields
