Overview In this role you will contribute to highway and roadway design within HDR's Transportation Business Group. You'll work on moderate to large projects as a key design-team member or independently on smaller ones, applying standards like AASHTO. You'll manage scopes, budgets, and schedules while coordinating with clients and subconsultants. You'll help shape safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions that benefit communities. Responsibilities- Join a highway/roadway design team on medium to large projects; independently handle smaller projects.
- Design roadway features using local standards or AASHTO, including alignments, sections, intersections, interchanges, and ROW plans.
- Assist or lead management of project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Coordinate day-to-day with design teams and clients; mentor junior staff; prepare reports and memos; liaise with subconsultants; keep projects on time and within budget.
Key requirements- Professional engineering license recognized by the location (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; 5 years of transportation design experience.
- Experience with PennDOT/PTC projects; Design-Build experience is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication; leadership and multi-team collaboration.
- Hands-on experience with highway CAD tools (Bentley ConceptStation, Open Roads Designer, OpenRoads, and/or Autodesk InfraWorks/Civil 3D); MS Office.
