Overview

In this Counsel role, you will manage a caseload of predominantly low-to-moderate complexity arising from claims against policyholders or the company. You'll act as a trusted advisor, providing proactive case handling and strategic guidance to insured clients and claim partners. You will conduct research, draft pleadings, and argue or negotiate outcomes, shaping litigation from inception through trial and appeal. The position supports Travelers' commitment to local expertise, strong client service, and cross-functional collaboration in a growing Las Vegas office.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply litigation strategies to achieve verdicts or favorable settlements
  • Perform legal research and deliver persuasive writing and oral advocacy
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and related documents
  • Attend court events, depositions, and other proceedings independently
  • Provide case analysis and strategic recommendations to insured clients and claim partners
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Advise and train Claim partners and clients on file handling and best practices
  • Utilize case management systems and technology effectively
  • Travel as required to meet business needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • 3+ years of insurance defense litigation experience
  • Experience handling cases from inception through trial/hearing and appeal
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to foster collaborative relationships and deliver excellent customer service
  • Persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy capabilities
  • Strong legal research skills and proficiency with technology
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and urgency
  • Sound decision making and negotiation skills
  • Flexible, agile mindset to adapt to evolving needs
  • Active license in good standing to practice law in relevant state(s)
  • Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motions, depositions; able to travel as needed
