Overview

As Fire Life Safety Team Lead in HDR's Building Engineering Services, you will grow the FLS business in Northern California, lead a multidisciplinary team, and shape technical excellence across markets. You'll collaborate with BES leadership, drive staffing, proposals, and client engagement, and coordinate with national networks to advance fire protection design. This role blends leadership, technical delivery, and business development to deliver safe, high-performance facilities. You will influence HDR's mission by elevating safety, reliability, and innovation in building infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit and grow the FLS business class in Northern California and leverage local/regional networks
  • Supervise and mentor fire protection engineers, EITs, and certified designers; manage hiring, performance and culture
  • Collaborate with area FLS leads on staffing, forecasting, and project proposals
  • participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and plan implementation
  • Ensure technical excellence across key markets (commercial, federal, healthcare, labs, etc.)
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders; contribute to marketing, proposals, and interviews
  • Lead or act as project manager for key projects; coordinate operations of the FLS work group
  • Oversee staff development, quality control, profitability, and marketing support
  • Support cross-section collaboration and knowledge sharing within HDR's nationwide FLS community
  • Participate in quality assurance/control reviews and delivery of client-focused project services
  • Travel up to 15% domestically and internationally when required
  • Support policy implementation and alignment with business class plans
  • Work with other leaders and marketing on business class efforts
  • Mentor and manage technical personnel; appoint and develop staff
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
