Overview

As a Light Tech III, you maintain and repair gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and EV vehicles across Los Angeles County. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose electrical and fuel systems, and service brakes, suspension, and emissions-related components. The role involves on-site, on-the-road, and mobile maintenance, with opportunities to support multiple county facilities and vendors. You'll work in a safety-conscious, hands-on environment, delivering reliable service to keep fleet operations running smoothly. This is a technically demanding role that shapes efficient, compliant fleet maintenance at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced automotive maintenance and diagnostics on gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and EV vehicles
  • Inspect and service braking, exhaust, suspension, steering, and tires; manage engine and transmission work
  • Conduct smog testing and repairs per California BAR specifications
  • Troubleshoot electrical, ignition, fuel injection, charging, and HVAC systems
  • Repair and replace engines, cylinders, transmissions, hydraulics, and complete emergency light/siren installations
  • On-road and mobile maintenance across multiple county locations; transporting vehicles as needed
  • Ensure safe handling of chemicals, PPE compliance, and shop cleanliness
  • Interact with cross-functional teams and report to regional locations as required
Key requirements
  • Valid Class C Driver's License
  • 10+ years automotive knowledge
  • ASE A5 certification or willingness to obtain within three months
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission (EVTCC) or willingness to obtain if required
  • California Bar Smog License preferred but not required
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied conditions
  • Ability to adapt to multiple shop facilities and travel as needed
