Overview

As Wastewater Design Principal Engineer, you lead water and wastewater design and construction activities within Arcadis' Resilience Water team. You mentor engineers, manage design projects across multiple offices, and liaise with clients to shape scopes, fees, and delivery. You will tackle complex treatment, solids handling, and distribution systems while navigating permits and funding requirements. This role combines technical leadership with project and client management, contributing to resilient water infrastructure and sustainability goals. You'll join a collaborative, growth-focused environment where your expertise drives impactful solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and participate in client development, scope and fee development, and proposal efforts across water/wastewater projects
  • Manage design teams, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate multi-disciplinary staff
  • Lead planning, design, and construction of treatment plants, solids handling, biogas facilities, and distribution/collection systems
  • Prepare construction documents, manage permitting, and oversee construction administration
  • Ensure project delivery within budgets and schedules, and manage risk
  • Engage with clients to tailor solutions and ensure compliance with Arcadis standards and safety
  • Support project development from inception to completion and contribute to national office efforts
  • Travel for client meetings, site visits, and project assignments
Key requirements
  • Bachelor or Master's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • 10 years of related water/wastewater experience
  • Professional Engineer license in New Jersey and/or nearby states (or ability to obtain NJ PE within 6 months)
  • Experience with plans/specifications aligned to MasterFormat and with alternative project delivery methods
  • Knowledge of federal and NJ funding requirements and permitting processes
