Overview In this Principal Substation Engineer role, you lead or support utility substation projects across a range of voltages to strengthen power delivery. You collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams to design, specify, and deliver HV substations and related systems. You will drive technical quality, schedule, and budget while mentoring engineers and pursuing new opportunities. Responsibilities- Lead or support utility and power substation projects for clients
- Develop substation layouts (plans, elevations, grounding, raceways, control buildings) and equipment/material lists
- Create single-line and three-line diagrams, auxiliary DC/AC power systems, SCADA/communications, relay panel layouts, wiring, and cable schedules
- Prepare calculations, reports, and equipment specifications for substation equipment and construction
- Manage technical, financial, and scheduling aspects of projects; may act as project/client/capture manager
- Mentor staff and build capabilities; pursue regional and national opportunities to grow the business
- Collaborate with other offices and disciplines; participate in proposals, bids, reports, and presentations
- Provide QA/QC reviews and maintain high engineering standards
Key requirements- 15+ years progressive experience in design, engineering and project management within power and utility industry
- Professional Engineer License
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Design experience in high voltage substation and distribution projects
- Experience with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project) for scope, schedule, and budget
- Ability to deliver quality technical solutions and major power delivery projects
