Overview As a Senior Biologist in Stantec's Southern California Ecosystems Group, you lead multidisciplinary teams to advance siting, permitting, and environmental analyses for energy, transportation, and development projects. You apply botanical, wetland, or wildlife expertise to CEQA/NEPA processes and regulatory strategy, working closely with clients, agencies, and technical staff. The role blends field and office work, including field tasks during construction and ecosystem restoration. You will influence project outcomes with robust scientific insight and leadership, contributing to a mission-driven firm focused on sustainability and community impact.

Responsibilities- Manage projects and supervise staff across renewable energy, oil & gas, and other development initiatives
- Coordinate field tasks: surveys of special-status species, nesting birds, vegetation mapping, jurisdictional waters delineations, and compliance monitoring
- Mentor junior staff and support project managers with scope, budget, and schedule
- Prepare and review technical reports and environmental assessments
- Lead pursuit of new business through RFP responses and proposal development
- Develop and implement permitting strategies and agency negotiations
- Coordinate with clients and regulators to communicate survey results and reports
- Contribute to corporate profile through professional associations and committees
- Travel as required to project sites and client meetings
- Care for field and office integration, including post-construction monitoring and reporting
Key requirements- Bachelor in Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resources Management, or related field; 10+ years of relevant experience
- Strong expertise in field biology, regulatory permitting, and project management
- Experience with CEQA/NEPA, FESA/CESA, MBTA/BGEPA, CWA, Porter-Cologne, FGC, CCA/LCPs, WRMSHCP
- Demonstrated ability to prepare technical documents (BRTRs, ARDRs, survey reports) and contribute to CEQA/NEPA sections
- GPS/GIS data collection and mapping for biological surveys and delineations
- Experience with special-status species surveys (arrry toad, coastal California gnatcatcher, least Bell's vireo, etc.) and related permitting
- California driver's license and willingness to travel; valid medical/drug screening may be required
- USFWS-approved biologist and/or CDFW-approved Designated Biologist experience is a plus
- Field and regulatory knowledge of southern California flora, fauna, and habitats
