Overview

As a Senior Design Engineer you will design, develop, and deliver motorcycle components and systems, applying Harley-Davidson engineering methods to meet performance, quality, cost, and durability goals. You'll work across disciplines and with suppliers to ensure robust solutions that align with vehicle objectives. You will lead design activities from concept to production, supported by validation and documentation efforts. This role offers cross-functional collaboration and meaningful impact on Harley-Davidson's product lineup and rider experience.

Responsibilities
  • Design, optimize, and deliver components and systems from concept to production using sound engineering fundamentals and testing
  • Define and manage component or system requirements to align with performance and project goals
  • Create and release CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Plan and execute validation activities (DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, testing) and resolve issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to solve technical, manufacturing, and quality problems
  • Support sourcing, supplier development, and production readiness activities
  • Communicate technical status and risks to stakeholders
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through knowledge sharing and best practices
  • Mentor less experienced engineers as appropriate to role
Key requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on product development experience
  • Strong mechanical design, project management, and continuous improvement background
  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, forging, casting, machining, injection molding, rubber molding, chrome plating, coatings)
  • Proficiency in bolted joint calculations, testing, and design tools (CAD, GD&T, FEA, PLM, DFM/DFA, ECO)
  • Proficient with CAD tools (Cre o or Pro-E) to ensure design accuracy
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems in a team setting
  • Experience leading diverse global teams to meet technical, quality, and timing goals
  • Experience with chassis, body, or vehicle design and supplier collaboration
  • Ability to develop and execute test plans to verify requirements
  • Experience with supplier interaction and production launches including PPAP
  • Motorcycle riding experience or strong interest preferred
