Human Resources (HR) Manager

Overview

In this role you will oversee human resources for a mission-driven organization, guiding the full employee lifecycle from recruiting to offboarding. You will build and refine HR processes, support a positive workplace, and ensure compliance with laws. You will partner with leadership to address employee relations, performance, and development while maintaining effective HR systems. The role offers scope to shape HR infrastructure in a small-to-mid-size setting and impact organizational culture.

Responsibilities
  • Full-cycle recruiting, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, background checks, and onboarding
  • Write job descriptions and manage exempt vs. non-exempt classifications
  • Manage employee relations, performance management, coaching, investigations, and corrective actions
  • Administer benefits, leave management (FMLA), ADA accommodations, and PTO tracking
  • Support payroll processes and collaborate with payroll vendors
  • Maintain HR policies, handbooks, SOPs, and HR documentation
  • HRIS and employee records management
  • Ensure HR compliance with federal and state employment laws
  • Support performance review programs and leadership development
  • Manage vendor relationships (benefits brokers, payroll providers, background screening)
  • Track HR metrics, turnover, and headcount reporting
  • Foster employee engagement, workplace culture, and recognition initiatives
  • Identify and implement HR best practices to improve processes
Key requirements
  • Broad, hands-on experience across the full employee lifecycle
  • Strong judgment and organizational skills
  • Experience in benefits administration and payroll support
  • HR compliance expertise with employment laws
  • Experience maintaining HR policies and documentation
  • Strong communication and discretion
  • Ability to work independently in a small-to-midsize organization
  • Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven environments (preferred)
