Overview As Plant Metallurgist you will support Product Development and Quality to ensure policy compliance and drive materials decisions at the site level. You'll collaborate with operations and sales to align metallurgy with capacity, orders, and customer requirements. You will manage metallurgical instructions for new and existing grades and support investigation of rejects and customer claims. This role offers visibility across cross-functional teams and an opportunity to influence product development and process improvements in a safety driven, ethical steel environment.
Responsibilities- Uphold quality, environmental and safety system integrity while supporting BRS objectives
- Coordinate with operations to assess unit capabilities for streamlining orders
- Participate in inquiry process for orders outside capability limits
- Ensure tracking for all new trial orders
- Manage metallurgy instructions for new/existing grades and routings
- Collaborate with Product Development, Quality and Sales on new grade development
- Prioritize activities to expedite order approval and maintain customer lead times
- Assist Customer Solution Specialists to accommodate customer requests
- Ensure Management of Change practices are defined and followed
- Assist in internal rejects and customer claim investigations to determine root causes
- Support cross departmental efforts to improve profitability and continuous improvement
- Contribute as a Team Member to project management efforts
Key requirements- Quality and detail orientation
- Strong metallurgical knowledge and ability to interpret customer specifications
- Good organizational/time management, analytical problem solving
- Strong communication and computer skills, ability to work independently and cross functionally
- BS or MS in Material Science, Chemistry, or related discipline
- Knowledge/experience in Steel CSP Mills - Mini Mills; 3 years as Process Metallurgist preferred
