Overview

Senior geotechnical engineer and laboratory manager within the Mining group, focusing on tailings storage facility design and analysis. You lead multi-disciplinary projects, oversee laboratory programs, and ensure safe, QA/QC driven outcomes across investigations and operations. You will mentor staff, engage with clients, and support business growth in a global infrastructure firm known for complex, impactful projects. This role combines field insight, laboratory leadership, and governance-focused engineering in a high-stakes environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide project leadership for tailings storage facilities and multi-disciplinary mining projects
  • Develop proposals and support practice growth with mining leadership
  • Plan and coordinate design, investigation, and operations phases of tailings projects
  • Manage laboratory testing programs, budgets, scopes, and schedules
  • Develop and oversee testing programs with division engineers
  • Perform and supervise advanced soil-mechanics tests (triaxial, direct simple shear, consolidation, cyclic shear, permeability)
  • Oversee laboratory data management and integration with geotechnical databases and design workflows
  • Lead laboratory and project activities with governance frameworks emphasizing risk reduction
  • Implement QA/QC and accreditation programs, maintain certifications, prepare for audits
  • Client communication, technical review, and peer reviews for QA
  • Mentor and guide technical staff in project tasks
Key requirements
  • BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License (preferred)
  • 10+ years of relevant experience (preferred)
  • Experience in tailings storage facility design, evaluation, construction monitoring, and operations
  • Experience supporting independent technical reviews, Engineer of Record teams, or external audits for tailings facilities
  • Knowledge of geotechnical/hydrological software and evaluations
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and professional demeanor
  • Experience conducting advanced soil mechanics laboratory testing and developing SOPs
