Overview In this role you will contribute to grid-scale BESS projects by shaping the conceptual layouts and detailed designs through construction packages. You will evaluate energy storage technologies, work with clients on technology and vendor selection, and support microgrid and distributed energy resources initiatives. You'll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complete design packages and provide technical support through construction and project execution. This role offers chance to influence the adoption of storage solutions and support a broader energy transition.
Responsibilities- Develop conceptual layouts and one-line diagrams for BESS projects and support construction packages
- Evaluate energy storage technologies, products, and vendors and assist with selection
- Design detailed electrical engineering solutions for BESS, microgrid, and distributed energy resources
- Create and review design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents at milestones
- Identify use-cases for BESS in centralized and distributed sites and support client implementation
- Prepare technical reports explaining BESS concepts, use-cases, and feasibility results
- Coordinate with civil, structural, FLS, high-voltage, SCADA/telecom, water, and geotechnical teams to finalize construction packages
- Participate in design reviews with stakeholders and permitting agencies
- Update internal design guidelines, catalogs, and templates for BESS projects
- Perform QA/QC on work of engineers, designers, or technicians
- Provide construction phase support including RFIs, submittals, CPRs, change orders, and incorporate changes
- Engage with clients, contractors, and vendors to support business development and project execution
- Manage project workload to meet schedule
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical support to HDR teams and clients
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with Electrical emphasis
- PE license
- 3+ years in design of BESS, distributed generation, renewables, electrical distribution, or power system controls
- Strong knowledge of BESS technologies and integration with energy facilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences
- Ability to manage multiple complex, time-sensitive projects
- Strong collaboration with clients and project teams
- Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, Revit, SKM, AGI, EasyPower
- Experience in adhering to NEC, NESC, IEEE codes and relevant local codes
